I had to create a new category for this album, The Sugarcubes being the first Icelandic band on the list.

When the first track started I had the immediate feeling like this was going to be another instance of me thinking I hadn’t heard the song before, but where I was actually very familiar with it. It was not, and I had not. I was simply hit by the power that is Bjork, and immediately recognized her voice as familiar.

Hit is a really weird song to make the top of the chart, let alone stay there for five weeks. I’m kind of baffled, to be honest. It’s not that it’s bad, it’s just all over the place.

I did not love this album. It’s kind of typical Bjork, to the extent anything she does can be described as typical. The vocals are strong, but range wildly and sometimes verge to atonal. There’s a male vocalist who basically talks as asides a lot, and the music is synthy and often hard to make heads or tales of.
